Safe List Building

Building a safe list aids in increasing traffic to a website and ultimately increase the sales of the product advertised there. Despite the rumours that safe list marketing is “dead and ineffective,” experience has proven that any and every online business should put the time into safe list building.

To begin, what is safe list building ?

A safe list is basically an email list. Customers can sign up for free to give the business permission to email the members that have joined. More complex safe lists have various levels of memberships that allow the business to email more members more frequently. (List building)

  • Not all safe lists are created equally. Studies have shown that the most effective types are the one that are “credit based.” This means that the members who join the list are required to visit the website to remain a member. Visiting the business website and clicking on links gives the customer credits that ensure they remain on the list. The best way for businesses to create a credit based safe list that works effectively is to place links to their business website within the email. By doing this, the workload is shared equally among the customers and business, and everybody wins.
  • Knowing what a safe list is only the first part. The business must also know how to use them effectively in order to get the most traffic to their website. Sending emails to the list and getting them to click is the beginning, but knowing when and how to email it is key. There is a good chance that if a customer signs up for one safe list, they have signed up for others. Each business will want to make theirs a priority, and safe list strategies can help.
  • Most people check their email early in the morning or late at night. By sending out emails to a safe list during these periods, the emails will be at the top of the list instead of jumbled between absolutely necessary emails and guaranteed junk, making it more likely to be read during the beginning of the email checking session.
  • While timing is important, it is the subject heading that will decide whether or not the customer will take the time to read it. The most responsive emails are the ones that offer a promise. Safe list emails that offer a discount on a product, free shipping, a downloadable program, or other freebie are much more enticing than a generic announcement of mail.

These basics of safe list building are a good start for a business to increase sales and productivity of their website. Remember to keep a few things in mind. First, the best safe lists are credit based. Second, the best response times are early in the morning and late at night. Finally, attract customers with free gifts. Expect this to take a bit of time to build a fan base, but by keeping on top of the safe list and working at it regularly, the member count will increase, and the business will profit.
